Hearing FAQs
How long does a hearing test take?
A hearing test (or hearing evaluation) can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. A hearing test doesn’t take too long and is completely painless.
Are there other ways I can treat my hearing loss?
Possibly, but it depends on what type of hearing loss you have and its severity. There are several hearing-related tools like hearing amplifiers, amplified telephones, TV listening systems, and personal listening systems. Plus, we also need to consider if you have any other underlying conditions (like tinnitus). We are happy to develop a treatment plan that works best with your needs and lifestyle.
Is tinnitus permanent?
Tinnitus can be temporary or permanent, depending on the cause. If you have ever experienced your ears ringing after a concert or a noisy event, the tinnitus could be temporary and should dissipate in a couple days. If tinnitus remains for longer, then you should have your hearing evaluated.
At Oliver Audiology, our audiologist can help alleviate your perception of tinnitus. There are a few management options that can help you. We offer tinnitus retraining therapy at our San Diego office, as well as hearing aids. To learn more about your options, contact us.
How does hearing frequency change with age?
Age and hearing frequency are often related. As we age, the hair cells in the inner ear (which are responsible for hearing) begin to naturally deteriorate. This leads to sensorineural hearing loss. When this occurs, it can be difficult to hear certain frequencies and parts of speech.
If you have noticed a change in your hearing ability, contact us today for a hearing evaluation.
How much do hearing aids cost?
The cost of hearing aids varies from type of hearing aid, brand, and services included. We understand that hearing aids are an investment. Because your hearing ability is linked to so many other aspects of your overall health (such as brain health, balance, and mental health), it is crucial to consider the investment.
We carry hearing aids at various price points and will work with you to help you find an affordable option.
What if I’m not sure I have hearing loss?
If you are unsure if you have hearing loss, you should schedule a hearing evaluation. You may have a slight hearing loss or a loss in one ear. Hearing loss varies from person to person. It’s important to have your hearing tested to determine if hearing loss is present so it can be properly managed.
